16 Words of Hope for a Messed Up World

HOPE, the one word that pertains to each one of us belongs to all and to no one at all. From our inner world to our global humanity, hope exists as a force to challenge and change our common future.

16 words of hope aims to infuse rational thinking and a global conversation about 16 common ideas that are relevant at a personal, social, political and global level.  These words exist as a basis for unity and harmony in a messed up world.   Without a common sense of universal harmony, there is no hope.

ABOUT SERGIO GOMEZ

Sated with figurative images, Sergio Gomez’s paintings are imbued with meditations on the multifaceted experiences of human condition and spirituality throughout the cycles of life. The artist unabashedly delves into the essence of humanity and the human condition, daring to use himself as the subject in many of his paintings. The black and white shadowy figures are representative of the flesh and the spirit, with the black images being of this earth whilst the white figures appear to represent transcendence into the higher self, the soul or the spirit. Much of Sergio’s work deals with the subject of man’s search for inner peace and a higher form of consciousness in the face of strife and difficulties associated with the human condition.

Sergio Gomez was born in Puebla, Mexico in 1971. At the age of sixteen, he and his family moved from Mexico City to the Chicago area where he has lived for over 15 years. Sergio Gomez received a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Northern Illinois University. In 1995, while at Governors State University, Sergio received the Lincoln Laureate Medallion Award given by the Lincoln Academy and former Governor of Illinois, Mr. Jim Edgar.

The art of Sergio Gomez has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Sergio Gomez is owner and director of 33 Contemporary Gallery in Chicago. In January 2009, Sergio founded VisualArtToday.com; a curated online exhibition space for international contemporary art. In addition, Sergio is an accomplished graphic designer, web designer, illustrator, art professor and independent curator at the Zhou B. Art Center in Chicago.

  1. PRIDE comes to mind. I was in the park here earlier, litter around, thinking if we had pride in ourselves and our towns villages and cities, we would take more care, and be happier with ourselves and our situations. Its easy not to care these days, and that leads perhaps to a downward spiral in all aspects of life.
